being alive

I woke up on Christmas Day and realized it was just a day like any other, which meant that Pixie had heard my eyelids open and was, at that moment, barreling toward me from the dog pillow across the room, building up momentum, tail wagging, gathering speed, hurrying toward me, and I was about to be covered with joy. I'm always happy to wake up, but Pixie makes it even better, because she reminds me that every day is a gift. I've never known a dog like her. She's always in a good mood, loves everybody she meets, and is simply happy 24/7. It will never cease to dumbfound me that she was surrendered willingly by someone to Scout's Honor Rescue. Whoever that heartless soul was that didn't appreciate her, I'm eternally grateful, because Rex and I have adored her ever since she became our dog last year.
