daddy's little girl

During my lunch hour I took The Big H shopping today. We went to Borders, Whole Foods, and Target. H was a model citizen the entire time, earning extra smiles and attention from checkout persons at every stop. She's like that girl with the curl in that poem; when she's good everyone remarks on how adorable she is, and I have to agree. She's pretty damn cute. However, I've stopped correcting people when they assume she's my child. They say, "You must have your father wrapped around your sweet little finger!" Then they look at me with expectant eyes, so I simply say, "Yes!" Because it's true. From what I can tell, yes, her father does seem quite enamored and willing to do anything for her, which is as it should be. But that's not my job. When she acts all sweet and innocent, I remind myself how she nearly took out my left eyeball with The Little Red Hen just this morning. Sweetness and light...riiiiiight.
