summer rain

Rex and I are in the 'burbs, watching over Minute and Sparky while L____ is out of town. We were sipping a mint julep in the garden last night, listening to the sounds of crickets, when we heard an owl in the distance. I hadn't heard an owl in quite some time. It's incredibly quiet out here. A bit too quiet, maybe, because I had a difficult time sleeping. Luckily, it started to rain around five in the morning, which lulled me to sleep for a few hours. Rex had trouble sleeping, too. He's usually very amiable, but he kept pacing all night and every time I got up, so did he, as if to say, Now? Are we going home now? How about now? Maybe after you pee? Or, now? How about now? He's relentless like that.
