fortune faded

In our novel Three Fortunes In One Cookie Phillip Powell's path in life is revealed to him by the three fortunes he finds in one fortune cookie. I didn't find much guidance at all in the fortune I found in my cookie last night:

Your luck is just not there. Attend to practical matters today.

In the words of Stephanie Tanner from Full House, "How rude!" No luck? That's horrible. Practical matters? I don't do practical. I demanded another cookie, inside of which I found this:

Being charming takes far more effort than being practical. I quit while I was behind. I turned on my heel instead, and went home. I'm glad I did.
