thank u

It's quite breezy today, a rare thing in Houston, and I had my windows open, so I'm quite chilled, and I might have a head cold. But I don't care, because this message came to me the other day:

All I would like to say is how lucky I feel right now! I read IT HAD TO BE YOU a couple of years ago, and have read and re-read that book like you would not believe. Because of [your] book I decided to start writing my own. [...]I feel it is such an honor to actually be able to send you a note, or e-mail to say thank you for such a wonderful insight to a book that wasn't all about sex and something a little more realistic. [...]

Becky, Jim, Tim, and I started writing IHTBY after many conversations about books we'd read and writers who inspired us. And while our books are in no way comparable to Holleran, Hollinghurst, Monette, Mordden, Leavitt, Keenan, Picano, or any of the other writers we admire, it's heady stuff to think that someone could possibly be inspired to write because of our work. It's a wonderful compliment. So while the air around me is cold, my heart is quite warm right now.
