I just got the funniest email. All it said was Are you hating me right now? It was from Laura, who works with Scout's Honor Rescue. A day or two ago I responded to an ad asking if someone would foster EZ, a dog who had been hit by a car. The dog's story and photos hit my River nerve, so I responded immediately and offered to take care of her. Earlier today I met with Laura and we picked up EZ from the emergency vet where she'd had her rear hip reset and a cast put on her front leg. She wasn't happy at all on the ride to the Compound. I wasn't that thrilled either, to tell the truth, because I hate driving on I-10. But I think EZ's whining had to do with not liking cars very much. And who can blame her for that? I imagine she's also in a lot of pain, too, and not that thrilled with the world. She fits right in here. Currently she's downstairs, listening to soothing music, yet making lots of noise because she's not used to being crated. She sounds like a sea lion crossed with a seagull when she gets going. It's kind of amusing. I know she's going to be fine, though. She's very sweet. It's going to take a lot of time, but once she heals I think she'll be happy again.
